![]() ![]() when Julia reveals how she was assaulted, the girls have a hard time finding words and Becca resorts to wishing she could bring the most important thing in the world to Julia just to set it on fire, just to show Julia how much she cares. when they are at The Court and Becca is having a memory of her first time there as a first year which ends with her picturing the mall go up in flames. ![]() This may be obvious foreshadowing for many, but I definitely had a shock realization on a re-read in realizing that arson is often a first suggestion that someone may escalate to murder. There are two moments in the book where when the narrative is shifted to Becca's point of view, she fantasizes about setting things on fire twice. My first is more of a late realization than a theory. I'd love to know anyone's opinion on them! I'm a long time lurker but rare poster, but I always enjoy people who discuss theories and ideas long after having finished the books. The Secret Place continues to be my stand out favorite and I found myself considering two theories. I am still working my way through all her "murder squad" books, if only to make sure I don't completely fly through them. ![]()
